8 candidates standing.

Winners last time: SNP (Mike Bridgman) in the first round. Labour (Maureen Child) in the 10th round after five independents, Scottish Socialist, Liberal, and Solidarity were eliminated. In the 14th round after Scottish Green, the second Labour candidate, and Conservative were eliminated, the Liberal Democrat (Stephen Hawkins) was the last one standing – and he didn’t make quota.

The incumbents standing are Mike Bridgman and Maureen Child.

The only woman standing is Maureen Child (Labour).

Liberton/Gilmerton Ward (4 councillors)

8 candidates standing.

Winners last time: SNP (Tom Buchanan) in the first round. Labour (Norma M Hart) in the second round. After two independents, the Solidarity, Scottish Socialist, Scottish Green, and Conservative were eliminated, in the ninth round Liberal Democrats (Conor Snowden), and the second Labour candidate (Ian Murray) who didn’t make quota. Ian Murray was elected as an MP in May 2010, and the by-election held the seat for Labour (Bill Cook).

The incumbents standing are Tom Buchanan, Norma Hart, and Bill Cook.

The women standing are Norma Hart (Labour) and Joan Carter (Scottish Green).

Winners last time: Labour (Ian Perry) in the sixth round (after an independent, the Solidarity, Liberal, Scottish Socialist, and SNP were eliminated). Then Liberal Democrats (Gordon Mackenzie), Scottish Green (Steve Burgess), and Conservative (Cameron Rose) all in the eighth round.

The incumbents standing are Ian Perry, Gordon Mackenzie, Steve Burgess, and Cameron Rose.

The only woman standing is Margaret Lea (Liberal Party in Scotland).

The incumbents standing are Stefan Tymkewycz and Gary John Peacock.

Winners last time: SNP (Deidre L Brock) in the first round. Liberal Democrats (Louise A Lang) in the fifth round – Liberal, Scottish Socialist, and an independent eliminated. Scottish Green (Maggie Chapman) in the eighth round (Solidarity and Conservative eliminated) and Labour (Angela Blacklock) in the 10th round (the second Labour candidate, Trevor Davies was eliminated).

The incumbents standing are Deirdre Leanne Brock (SNP), Angela Blacklock (Labour), and Maggie Chapman (Scottish Green). They’re also the only three women standing.

City Centre Ward (3 councillors)

6 candidates standing.

This is the only ward where there are more women standing than council seats for the ward.

Winners last time: Liberal Democrats (Charles C Dundas) in the fifth round, after Liberal, Scottish Socialist, and Scottish Green were eliminated. SNP (David Beckett) in the 6th round, and Conservative (Joanna Mowat) in the eighth round after Labour was eliminated. David Beckett resigned and Alasdair Rankin held the seat (just) for the SNP in 2011.

The incumbents standing are Joanna Mowat and Alasdair Rankin.

The four women standing are Joanna Mowat (Conservative), Karen Doran (Labour), Julita Mazurek (Scottish Green), and Karen Michelle Hetherington (Liberal Party in Scotland).

Winners last time: Conservative (Mark McInnes) in the first round; Liberal Democrats (Marilyne Angela MacLaren) in the second round; Scottish Green (Alison Johnstone) in the seventh round after Solidarity, Scottish Socialist, SNP, and the second Liberal Democrat had been eliminated: and Labour (Paul Godzik) in the ninth round.

The incumbents standing are Paul Godzik and Mark McInnes. Also Jenny Dawe (Liberal Democrats councillor from Drum Brae/Gyle).

Winners last time: SNP (Nick Elliott-Canon) and Labour (Eric Milligan) both in the first round. And Liberal Democrats (Joanna Toomey) and second Labour (Donald C Wilson) both in the last round (but Labour didn’t make quota) after Conservative and Scottish Green were eliminated – and Solidarity, Scottish Socialist, and two Independent candidates were eliminated in earlier rounds.

The incumbents standing are Eric Milligan and Donald Wilson.

There are three women standing: Lindsay Ashford (Scottish Green), Susan Stewart Dewhurst (Conservative) and Catherine Fullerton (SNP).

Winners last time: Conservative (Elaine Aitken) in the fourth round, even after SNP, Scottish Green, and Scottish Socialist had been eliminated. Conservative (Jason Rust) and Labour (Eric Barry) both won in round 6 after the Liberal Democrat was eliminated.

All the incumbents are standing again – Elaine Aitken, Jason Geoffrey Rust, and Eric Barry.

The only woman standing is Elaine Aitken.
